Augustus is the recording artist more formally known as Dr. Warren, the education researcher and Vanderbilt professor. Music is a medium that stretches far and wide—to places that a book or journal article never will. Augustus’ debut EP “Love Letter” is an unapologetic celebration of blackness and Black culture—themes one will also find well-represented in Dr. Warren’s scholarly work. With influences that range from soul to gospel to funk, Augustus has penned a soothing suite of musical selections that foreground God’s grace, Black dignity, possibility, and love.
